After Barbara’s first public performance of the Anthem in 1990, the Orange Environment organization adopted it as Orange County NY’s official Earth Day Anthem! That same year New York State Congressman, Ben Gilman recommended its adoption as our Nation’s Earth Day Anthem. The following year it was nominated for a Nobel, United Earth Prize.
In 1992 Barbara was invited as a special guest to the Kennedy Center Nobel Earth Prize Awards Ceremony. Kathy Mattea, Kenny Loggins and John Denver performed to a packed concert hall.
John Denver was ultimately awarded the Prize and afterwards there was a private candlelight dinner where Barbara was honored to meet host, Claes Nobel as well as Quincy Jones, Kenny Loggins, John Denver and Bianca Jagger.
Later when interviewed, Barbara said, “To have even been considered for such a prestigious prize, among my musical heroes was the thrill of a lifetime!”
Even though Barbara performed the Earth Day Anthem over the years at many concerts it was never recorded until 2015 when Al Orlo, her lead guitarist introduced her to John Lissauer, the award-winning producer, writer and musician. The talent that was assembled for the recording was formidable…
